![]() ![]() Established in 1978 under Michigan Public Act 89 of 1977, the Cooperative provides member libraries with several important services, ranging from automated circulation of library materials to access to the Internet. The Suburban Library Cooperative is a network of public libraries in metro Detroit, which have joined together to secure services which can be performed more effectively and economically as a group. Today, the library consists of 12,500 square feet, 100,500 collections, 310 programs and 27 computers. ![]() In April of 1973, the library joined what is now the Suburban Library Cooperative, allowing it to receive and borrow materials from all other libraries in Macomb County. During its first week, it was met with overwhelmingly positive feedback and welcomed its first 515 registered patrons. The Shelby Township Library opened to the public in August of 1972.
